Spring Break- Day 1 Cusco Peru

After a long week of planning, midterms, and crying we boarded a plane off to Peru! And yes, I did say crying because the most stressful thing I've had to do since abroad is plan a spring break trip (life is really hard I know). For some reason life was throwing me some curveballs with a series of unfortunate events including losing my debit card, bank systems not working, visas being delayed, hours in a spanish speaking travel agency, and extremely difficult money transfers. All worth it though as we boarded the plane off to Peru!

We landed and got to our hotel Saamay which was cute and surprisingly so nice with great wifi! We had a delicious lunch with the famous ceviche and met our toe group for a tour of Cuzco. We first went to the spanish church then to Incan ruins. Cuzco is an old Incan city that the Spanish destroyed along with all the people when colonizing Peru. The buildings that the Incans built for their time were extraordinary and it is truly a mystery how without modern tools and technology they were able to create such incredible buildings.
Unfortunately, we thought it was supposed to be 90 and sunny wore shorts and tanks...and boy were we wrong. It was pouring rain even hailing at times, windy and cold. I was miserable at first, debates taking the tour from the view of the van but we found our savior a when some pushy lady put ponchos on us that warmed our souls and we couldn't resist paying her overpriced American price for. But, it was definitely worth it as it salvaged the day for me and I could then start enjoying the incredible surroundings we were witnessing.

Our ceviche! Yum (the corn was huge and the pine nuts were delicious)

For dinner we went to an incredible restaurant called Chi Cha. Roberto had the winning drink and food wise we shared appetizers and main meals. I am embarrassed to admit but I tried guinea pig, a famous Peruvian dish...ew. We also had a quinoa salad, ceviche and lomo saltado. It was delicious and a great first day in the country of Peru!
