Rio de Janeiro!!

After our trip to Machu Picchu as the second half of our Spring break we went across the continent to Brazil for 4 days!
Brazil is officially one of my FAVORITE cities and I must come back here some time in my life. A few of the reasons include:
1. Brazil is known for having the most amazing fruit! - I probably ate my weights worth of Mango and as Roberto would say he "wouldn't be surprised if I turned into a mango". All the grocery stores had the most incredible fruit and even our very cheap hotel had an incredible breakfast Buffet with sooo much mango!
Also, Brazil has the most amazing fruit juices- called Sucos- the Pineapple is the best for sure.

The breakfast buffet fruit- Gotta have the breakfast buffet

2. The entire city sits right on top of the beach. You can get lunch at a nice place and casually walk right onto the board walk and be on the beach.

3. You can drink openly on the beach and there are people selling the most amazing Caipirinha drinks for basically a dollar all over the beach! So delicious, so cheap.

4. The beach is BEAUTIFUL- sand is white and mountains surrounding it everywhere. There are three different beaches on the same water for different areas- my favorite was definitely Copacabana, the beach town we were staying at.

Weird part of Rio- PORTUGUESE- it sounds like a mix between Japanese and German and is spoken so fast and so hard to understand. There was definitely big language barriers everywhere we went but I learned Frango is chicken and abacaxi is pineapple.

One day we had a city tour where we got to see the Jesus statue, which is HUGE and overlooks the entire city. Its supposedly an incredible view of all of Rio but we went on a cloudy day... straight passport photos. We also saw the Favelas, which are the slums and I had learned so much about. It is so sad because they are basically IN the city which is so wealthy but people live so poorly. We saw the stadium where the world cup is going to be and the arena where Carnival is held every February.

Our great view...

The soccer stadium!

Carnival!

A cool church we saw

The favelas!

Robert Jenna and I after our tour had a day on the beach together while the other 3 went MIA and refused to contact us. We had a fun day though got drinks on the beach and even though the weather was not great enjoyed a nice Rio beach afternoon.

We went out to dinner in some cool bar and told them it was Roberto's birthday!

We went out to some Samba club that had singers and dancers, was three stories and had a really cool design to it. It was a really fun night!
