Punta Del Este Weekend

We boarded a ferry to Punta Del Este, Uruguay aka the "south beach" of South America for the weekend! Unfortunately the weather was not in our favor as we arrived to a thunderstorm…But the despite the weather we had a great weekend!
We arrived to our hostel which was surprisingly a lot nicer than we expected (thankfully because we were going to need to spend a lot of time in there). Ali and I shared a double bed and had our own bathroom! We found a delicious lunch place called Olivias that overlooked the water.

We had to wear these "socks" for the Plush Ferry

So much rain!!

Olivias- such a cute brunch spot!

On the wall of Olivias- it spoke to us

After lunch we decided to go shopping and found a mall that sounded promising with its bowling ally and movie theatre. We were quite underwhelmed when we could lap the entire mall in 20 minutes but ended up seeing Blue Jasmine which was incredible and made our afternoon very enjoyable.

We walked down the boardwalk next to the beach to a nice restaurant for a delicious dinner for our first night.

We awoke the next day to yet another thunderstorm and a 90% chance of rain ALL day. But, yet again this did not stop us from having fun. We found a hotel that was famous for their waffles and took a cab to the waffle place. Unfortunately we arrived at 12 and waffles were not til 5…oops. We ate brunch there and cabbed to my first casino! Ali impressed all the locals with her blackjack skills and got a huge high five from an old man in cartier studded glasses and three diamond rings, clearly this was not his first time being here. The casino was quite a scene and quite exhilarating to watch…I definitely can understand how people can get addicted!

We returned to the hotel for waffles now at the right time. It was definitely worth it as they were indescribably delicious!

Ali and I had a raging night....

For our third and final day we awoke to blue skies! Ali and I went for a run along the boardwalk of the beach to start the day! We then rented bikes and went to the famous "Los Dedos Las Bravas" which is a hand scullpture in the sand.

We then biked to a hotel that was hosting their weekly "champagne sunday brunch". We got champagne, french onion soup, chicken skewers, coffee, and dessert all for free with our omlettes! It was quite a delicious deal.

Champagne Brunch Cheers!

We then biked back to the casino for me to actually play for the first time! I started with $50 and at the blackjack table ended up with $140!! Almost tripled what I had started with! Safe to say I now love casinos (uh oh mom and dad).

We rented bikes and rode on the boardwalk!

We then went to the beach and attempted to lay out on the beach…which is what we had hoped to be doing the whole weekend.

Attempting to sun bathe...

At least some people got into the water...

We caught the ferry and bus back from Punta and were sad that this was our last trip we are going to be taking! Abroad is basically over and we cannot believe it!
